Hi I'm Wendy, the owner of Dogs Rock, a new dog training and walking business which opened in 2023.
After working in the financial services industry for over 20 years, I felt it was time for a change and decided to follow my love for dogs, putting my experience of helping dogs to good use.
Although I had experience of working with dogs through fostering, helping dogs to overcome different training needs in order to find their forever homes, and of course caring for my own family dogs for over 20 years. I felt it was important for me to go back to school to learn the most up to date, force-free training methods and to fully understand how dogs learn and communicate.
In 2020 I started my studies with The International School for Canine Psychology and Behaviour (ISCP), qualifying as a Canine Behaviourist in 2022.
In June, 2022 I started my journey with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) passing the trainers assessment with merit, in July 2023.
Understanding dogs, how they learn, communicate and what makes them tick has led me to continue with my studies, introducing me to activities that dogs and their families can enjoy together working as a team. In July 2022 after coming across Hoopers, a wonderful, low impact, fun sport suitable for dogs of all ages and abilities from puppies to our golden oldies and disabled dogs, I completed the Canine Hoopers World Instructor Course.
From my studies as a behaviourist I already knew the great benefits of dogs being able to use their nose so I decided to look into this further and completed a Scent Work Enrichment Course through Canine Principles in November 2022.
Through my work of fostering dogs, I have looked after dogs of different sizes, breeds, ages, backgrounds and temperaments. To help dogs in my care, I really wanted to explore reactivity and in April 2023, became an Approved Reactivity Expert through Canine Principles.
Having children of my own, it’s important for me that my dog training and consultations are family friendly, after all the children live with the family dogs, so why shouldn’t they learn all about them? Helping children to understand how to act safely around dogs and to understand their body language has always been extremely important to me, keeping both the children and dogs safe and happy. Dogs and children can have a great relationship, bringing many benefits to each other but it’s always important to respect how a dog is feeling and what they are trying to tell you. This is why I decided to become a Kids Around Dogs (KAD) professional and went on to complete the Dogs in Schools Professional course in June 2023.
As a force-free trainer and behaviourist it’s important to me that I continue with my training and keep up with the latest research. I am also required to complete a minimum amount of training each year as part of my accreditations and memberships so you can always be assured that I am training the most up to date methods. I have completed many other courses such as IMDT’s Loose Leaders, Perfect Puppy and Happy Recallers, all key areas I have found people wish to focus on with their dogs.
My training is designed to give you the skills and techniques needed to be able to continue with your dogs training outside of the training class environment.
